The Imam al-Bukhari Complex, located in the village of Hartang, approximately 25 kilometers from the city of Samarkand, is today open to pilgrims, tourists, and local residents in a fully renovated form.

As part of this large-scale project, a territory covering more than 48,000 square meters was completely reconstructed. The complex includes the mausoleum of Imam al-Bukhari, a spacious pilgrimage area, several mosques and prayer halls, modern infrastructure, as well as landscaped gardens covering 4,400 square meters.

The central congregational mosque of the complex is capable of accommodating more than 9,000 worshippers at the same time. The complex was built with the capacity to receive up to 5 million pilgrims per year, making it one of the largest pilgrimage destinations in Central Asia.

In addition, hotels built according to halal principles, recreation areas, and wide pedestrian walkways with all necessary facilities for pilgrims have been established throughout the territory.

This complex, reflecting the rich scientific and spiritual heritage of Imam al-Bukhari, is recognized not only as a religious pilgrimage site, but also as one of the important cultural and tourist centers of Samarkand.


Today, the Imam al-Bukhari Complex is not only one of our country’s important historical and religious heritage sites, but also a major center of pilgrimage and tourism that attracts the entire Islamic world. Built in harmony with modern architecture and national values, the complex welcomes tourists, scholars, and pilgrims from different countries every day.

Imam al-Bukhari is the author of Al-Jami as-Sahih and is highly respected throughout the Islamic world. The complex in Hartang has been reconstructed in a modern style and includes a mosque, prayer halls, gardens, and rest areas for pilgrims. The central mosque can accommodate more than 9,000 worshippers. The complex attracts local and international pilgrims as a religious, historical, and cultural site.

Several facilities will include a pilgrimage site with a scholar's mausoleum, spacious prayer halls and halal-friendly hotels. The construction is expected to be completed in 2025.
